Digital Learning and E-Training Practices in Human Resource Development: Trends, Challenges, and Future Directions
Abstract
The rapid advancement of digital technologies has fundamentally transformed Human Resource Development (HRD) by reshaping how organizations design, deliver, and evaluate employee learning and development initiatives. Digital learning and e-training practices have emerged as essential mechanisms for fostering workforce competence, organizational adaptability, and continuous professional development in an increasingly knowledge-driven economy. This review article critically examines the evolution, theoretical foundations, technologies, organizational applications, benefits, challenges, and future directions of digital learning within HRD. Drawing upon contemporary scholarly literature, the study explores the role of Learning Management Systems (LMS), Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), mobile learning, virtual classrooms, artificial intelligence-based learning systems, and gamification strategies in facilitating effective workforce training. The article further investigates the impact of digital learning on employee competence, organizational learning, knowledge management, and workforce agility.
